INSTRUCTIONS BONNYS AND BRUSH ON FABRIC PAINTS
 |
Pre-wash fabric. Dry well. Iron. |
 |
 |
Place pattern under fabric and trace design
with charcoal or a soft pencil or permanent marker. |
 |
Apply paint to fabric with a flat bristle brush – work neatly in one direction as brush strokes show.
|
 |
To shade an area – paint a light colour first then blend in darker shades while paint is still wet. |
 |
To create texture, use the back of your brush to draw designs into the WET paint. |
 |
When paint is DRY use FABRIC PAINT OUTLINERS to loosely trace outlines of design. |
 |
Hold bottle upright at a 90° angle – tilting will result in thick uneven lines. |
 |
Do NOT squeeze bottle until nozzle is completely flat against the fabric. |
 |
Use a light even pressure to continue outlining. |
TO HEAT SET:
 |
Wait 24 hours for fabric painting to dry well. |
 |
Iron on reverse side for 30 seconds at 190°C. OR preheat oven
to 120°C. SWITCH OVEN OFF, then fold fabric painting with painted
side to the inside and place in oven until oven is cold. |
 |
Hand wash for best results. |
TOP TIPS
- Use Heritage flat bristle brushes for best results when painting
on fabric.
- Place blobs of paint on a paper plate and work from
plate – never put a wet/dirty brush in the bottle as this will contaminate the paint.
- White No. 25 is opaque so when mixed with other colours they will become opaque.
- Use Clear No 26 to extend colours and make lighter shades of a colour.
- Do not use water to dilute paint as your colours will bleed.
- For a sunbleached effect place a leaf or a stencil on fabric
painting while paint is still WET. Leave in the sun to dry.
- OR mix your background colour with Clear No 26 (4 parts colour
with 1 part clear). Apply paint to fabric – while paint is still
wet, stamp into the paint with a DRY foam rubber stamp. This lifts
off some of the background paint on the fabric and also gives
a sunbleached effect.
If you are painting a border, place masking
tape on fabric painting to help keep edges straight. Allow to dry
and remove masking tape. A sponge aplicator works best when applying
fabric paint on large areas such as borders or checks.
